Use several eSIMs on one phone

Yes. Most eSIM phones store several eSIMs and use two lines at once, for example your home line plus one travel eSIM. Switch on the eSIM for the country you're in.

Do this now

  1. Install each eSIM at home on Wi-Fi.
  2. Label each one by country, such as "Japan" or "Thailand".
  3. In each country, turn on that country's eSIM.
  4. Set it as your mobile data line and turn on its data roaming.
  5. Turn off the eSIMs you're not using.

How many can my phone hold?

Most eSIM phones store several eSIMs and run two lines at once. iPhones can store eight or more. So you can keep your home line on for texts and use one travel eSIM for data, with more stored and ready.

One eSIM per country, or one for the region?

  • Visiting one country: a country plan, for example Japan.
  • Visiting several: a regional plan often covers them all in one eSIM, with no switching.
  • A mix: install a country plan for each stop and switch as you go.

Switch with ease

Label each eSIM by country when you install it. When you arrive:

  1. Turn that country's line on.
  2. Choose it for mobile data.
  3. Turn on its data roaming.
  4. Turn the others off.

iPhone: Settings → Mobile Service. Samsung: Settings → Connections → SIM manager. Pixel: Settings → Network & internet → SIMs.

When does each plan start?

On most plans, each one starts when it first connects at its own destination, so installing them all at home is safe. The plan page tells you if one starts on install. More: when does my plan start.

After the trip

Tidy up with delete your eSIM after your trip. Same destination again soon? Keep it and top up on plans that allow it.

Can I use two travel eSIMs at once?

Your phone can run two lines at once, but you only need one for data. Keep your home line as the second.

Will my eSIMs get mixed up?

Label each one by country when you install it and you'll always know which is which.
