When does my eSIM plan start?

Most plans start when your eSIM first connects to a supported network at your destination. A few start when you install. The plan's own page tells you which.

Most plans: from your first connection abroad

On most plans, your days start when the eSIM first connects to a supported network at your destination. Buying it doesn't start the clock. Installing it at home doesn't either. So buy early, install at home on Wi-Fi, and fly relaxed.

Example: you buy a 15-day Japan plan on Monday, install it on Wednesday and land in Tokyo on Friday. Your 15 days start on Friday, when the eSIM first connects in Japan.

Some plans: from install

A few plans start when you install the eSIM. The plan's own page says so clearly. For these, install a day before you fly or on arrival, while you still have Wi-Fi.

How days are counted

Your plan's validity runs from its start. Your eSIM page, linked in your email, shows the exact expiry date and time once it has started, next to your usage meter.

Check yours

  • Before you buy: the plan page shows when it starts.
  • After you buy: open your eSIM page from the link in your email (or your account if you're signed in) to see the status and expiry.

Plan your install

Read install your eSIM before you travel for the best timing, then follow the install guide.

Does installing my eSIM start the plan?

On most plans, no: it starts on your first connection at your destination. The plan page says if yours starts on install.

Where can I see my expiry date?

On your eSIM page, linked in your email, once the plan has started.
