Slow eSIM data? Speed it up
On some unlimited and daily plans, speed drops after the daily fast-data allowance, and the plan page shows the speed after it. Otherwise, restart, pick another network and check 5G is on.
Do this now
- Check your usage: have you used today's fast-data allowance?
- Restart your phone.
- Pick a different network by hand.
- Make sure 5G or 4G is on in your mobile data options.
- Turn off Low Data Mode or Data Saver.
- Move closer to a window or outdoors for a stronger signal.
Daily fast-data allowance
Some unlimited and daily plans give you a set amount of fast data each day. Use it up and the speed drops until the next allowance. The plan page shows the allowance and the speed after it, so you always know what you're getting. Check your eSIM page to see where you are today.
Other reasons data feels slow
- Weak signal: inside thick walls, basements, trains and rural areas.
- Busy networks: stadiums, festivals and city centres at rush hour.
- The wrong network: your phone may cling to a weaker partner network.
- Old settings: 5G switched off, or Low Data Mode on.
Quick fixes
- Restart your phone or switch airplane mode on and off.
- Pick a network by hand. iPhone: Settings → Mobile Service → travel line → Network Selection. Samsung: Settings → Connections → Mobile networks → Network operators. Pixel: Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → travel SIM → turn off Automatically select network.
- Turn on 5G. iPhone: Settings → Mobile Service → travel line → Voice & Data. Android: Preferred network type.
- Turn off Low Data Mode (iPhone) or Data Saver (Android).
