Your Thailand eSIM in two questions
Which Thailand eSIM plan do I need?
In Thailand, the right plan depends on whether you're in Bangkok for a long weekend or touring for a fortnight.
- A long weekend in Bangkok: 1 GB for 7 days covers light use: maps, messages and email, about 0.8 GB in all over three days.
- A fortnight touring Chiang Mai and Phuket: 10 GB for 30 days suits standard use, with social media, music and some video.
- A business trip or long stay: 3 GB a day for 30 days is built for heavy use, such as streaming and using your phone as a hotspot.
- Thailand and a neighbour: if your trip also takes in Singapore and Malaysia, the Singapore, Malaysia & Thailand bundle covers all three countries.
Most plans can be topped up, and the longest is 50 GB for 180 days.

Will my eSIM have signal in Thailand?
Your eSIM joins AIS, DTAC, True Move or TrueMove H. You'll get 5G where it's available and 4G elsewhere, and your phone picks a network by itself, so there's nothing to set up when you land.
Cities, towns and the main tourist islands are well covered. Signal can be weak in remote mountains and some national parks, so save your maps before you head into the hills. Your data reaches the internet through Hong Kong, a normal setup for travel eSIMs, and the IP address guide explains why. On daily plans, speed slows to 384 Kbps once you've used the day's allowance.
How much data do you need in Thailand?
Light: maps, messages, email (about 0.25 GB a day). Standard: plus social, music, some video (about 0.7 GB a day). Heavy: plus streaming, video calls, hotspot (about 1.8 GB a day).

Using your phone in Thailand: airports, rides and LINE
-
Land and switch on: Land at Suvarnabhumi (BKK), Don Mueang (DMK) or Phuket (HKT), then switch your eSIM on. Install it at home on Wi-Fi first, and make sure data roaming is on for the eSIM line.
-
Getting around: Grab and Bolt are the ride apps to download before you head out from Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Pattaya or Krabi, so getting a ride is easy.
-
Staying in touch: LINE is the main way to message locals, hotels and tour operators, so download it before you land. Your home number stays on for calls and texts, and you can keep WhatsApp working too.
-
Networks: Your eSIM uses AIS, DTAC, True Move or TrueMove H networks, on 5G or 4G where it's available.
-
Top-ups: Most plans can be topped up, so you can add more data mid-trip if you need it.
Thailand eSIM questions
How much is an eSIM for Thailand?
Thailand eSIMs start at £3.99 for 100 MB over 7 days. A 5 GB plan for 30 days costs £4.99. Prices include any taxes and show in pounds, euros or dollars.
Which networks does the Thailand eSIM use?
Your eSIM connects to AIS, DTAC, True Move and TrueMove H in Thailand, with 5G where the network has it. Your phone picks the strongest signal automatically.
When does my Thailand eSIM start?
Most plans start the moment your eSIM first connects to a network in Thailand, so you can buy and install it at home before you fly. Install it within 180 days of buying.
Can I top up my Thailand eSIM?
Yes. Most Thailand plans can be topped up from your eSIM page in two taps, with no new QR code. The plan table on this page shows which ones.
Why does my IP address show another country?
Thailand plans route your data through Hong Kong, a normal setup for travel eSIMs. Websites and apps may show that country's content; your speed and coverage in Thailand are not affected.
Does it come with a phone number?
Every eSIMology plan is data only. Keep your own SIM switched on for calls and texts, and use WhatsApp, FaceTime or any calling app over your eSIM's data.
What if my plans change?
Cancel an eSIM you haven't installed within 30 days for a full refund to your card, in two taps from your eSIM page.
Does Grab work with an eSIM in Thailand?
Yes. Grab and Bolt both need mobile data to book a ride, and your eSIM supplies it, so you can order a ride from Suvarnabhumi (BKK) or Don Mueang (DMK) without hunting for Wi-Fi.
Do I need LINE in Thailand?
Yes, LINE is the app to have. It's the main way to message locals, hotels and tour operators in Thailand, so download it and set up your account before you fly.
Is there 5G in Thailand?
Yes. Thailand's networks offer 5G as well as 4G, including AIS, DTAC, True Move and TrueMove H. Your phone must support 5G to use it, so check your model before you travel.
Can I use one eSIM in Thailand and Singapore?
Yes. The Singapore, Malaysia & Thailand bundle covers all three countries. Going on to Vietnam or Indonesia too? The Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand & Indonesia bundle covers those as well.
Can I use one eSIM in Bangkok and Phuket?
Yes. Your Thailand eSIM isn't tied to one city, so Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Pattaya and Krabi all share the same plan. Flying from Bangkok to Phuket (HKT)? You keep one eSIM for the whole trip.
