Which Oman eSIM plan do I need?

Match your trip length and how you'll use your phone, and the plan below is the right one.

  • A city break in Muscat: 3 days of light use (maps, messages, email) is covered by 1 GB for 7 days.
  • A fortnight touring Oman: 14 days of standard use suits 10 GB for 30 days, which gives you social media, music and some video from Muscat to Nizwa.
  • A business trip: 7 days of standard use suits 5 GB for 30 days, so email and maps run all week.
  • A trip that also takes in other countries: the GCC Countries eSIM covers six of them, so one eSIM does the lot.

Most plans can be topped up if you run low, and the longest plan lasts 30 days.

Good to know

  • Data only: your own number keeps working for calls and texts
  • Hotspot works where your phone and the network allow it
  • Plans start when you first connect; install within 180 days
  • Your data routes through EUROPE, so some sites may show that country
  • Top up the same eSIM any time, no new QR code

Will my eSIM have signal in Oman?

Your eSIM joins Omantel, and your phone picks it up by itself, with no network to choose. Omantel runs 5G where it's available, so messages and maps load well in Muscat, Salalah and beyond.

Cities and main roads are well covered; signal can drop in the desert and mountains, so download offline maps before you head to Nizwa or Musandam. Your data reaches the internet through Europe, a normal setup for travel eSIMs, and you can read more on our IP address page. On daily plans, your data slows to 512 Kbps after that day's allowance, so pick a size that fits your busiest day.

Install in two minutes

How to set up your Oman eSIM

  1. Install at home

On Wi-Fi, tap Install on iPhone (iOS 17.4+), scan the QR code, or type the two codes from your email.

  2. Switch on when you land

Turn on your eSIM line, choose it for mobile data and switch Data Roaming on for that line.

  3. You're online

Your phone joins Omantel and your plan starts. Check data left on your eSIM page.

Using your phone in Oman: arriving, getting around and calls

  • Arriving: Land at Muscat (MCT) or Salalah (SLL), switch on your eSIM and check that data roaming is on for that line. Turn on data roaming is quick to do. Install at home on Wi-Fi first, so there's nothing to set up at the airport.
  • Getting around: Careem and OTaxi are the local ride apps, so have them ready before you fly. They are handy in Muscat, Salalah, Nizwa, Sur and Musandam.
  • Staying in touch: WhatsApp is the messaging app to have ready here. Your home number stays on for calls and texts, and keep WhatsApp and your home number explains how to use both.
  • Blocked calls: WhatsApp and FaceTime voice and video calls are blocked in Oman, so send messages instead. Your eSIM can also route through Europe, which can help some services open.
  • Topping up: Most plans can be topped up, so you can add data later without buying a new eSIM.
