Install your eSIM without a second screen
You can't point a phone's camera at its own screen, so use another way: tap Install on this iPhone (iOS 17.4 or later), press and hold the QR code, or type in the manual codes.
Do this now
- iPhone on iOS 17.4 or later: open your eSIM email and tap Install on this iPhone.
- Or press and hold the QR code in the email, then tap Add eSIM.
- Any phone: open your order page, copy the SM-DP+ address and activation code, and enter them by hand.
- Or open the QR code on a laptop, tablet or a friend's phone and scan it.
The problem
Your eSIM email has a QR code, but you're reading it on the phone you want to install it on. A camera can't scan its own screen. Easy fix: you have three other ways.
1. One tap on iPhone
On an iPhone with iOS 17.4 or later, tap Install on this iPhone in your email or on your order page. Your iPhone opens the setup straight away. Tap Continue and follow the screens. Full steps: install an eSIM on iPhone.
2. Press and hold the QR code (iPhone)
On iOS 17.4 or later you can also press and hold the QR code image in the email or on the order page, then tap Add eSIM.
3. Type in the manual codes (any phone)
Your order page shows two codes:
- SM-DP+ address
- Activation code
On iPhone: Settings → Mobile Service → Add eSIM → Use QR Code → Enter Details Manually. On Android, choose the enter manually option on the scan screen. See install on Android.
4. Use a second screen
Open your order page on a laptop, tablet or a friend's phone and scan the QR code from there.
Ready
Once it's installed, leave it until you land, then turn on data roaming.
Can I scan a screenshot of the QR code?
On iPhone with iOS 17.4 or later, press and hold the QR code image and tap Add eSIM. On Android, use the manual codes instead.
Where are my manual codes?
On your order page, under the QR code: the SM-DP+ address and the activation code.
