Which Peru eSIM plan do I need?

Match your trip length to how much you'll use your phone, and the right plan is easy to spot.

  • A long weekend in Lima: Choose 3 GB for 15 days, which fits standard use over three days of rides, maps and WhatsApp.
  • A fortnight touring Cusco, Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley: Pick 10 GB for 30 days, which covers standard use over 14 days of photos, maps and messages.
  • A month in Arequipa: Take 20 GB for 30 days, which fits standard use across a 30-day stay.
  • A trip that takes in a neighbouring country: The South America bundle for 6 countries covers Peru too, so one eSIM covers the whole trip.

Most plans can be topped up, and the longest plan lasts 30 days.

Good to know

  • Data only: your own number keeps working for calls and texts
  • Hotspot works where your phone and the network allow it
  • Plans start when you first connect; install within 180 days
  • Your data routes through Belgium, so some sites may show that country
  • Top up the same eSIM any time, no new QR code

Will my eSIM have signal in Peru?

Your eSIM joins Claro and Movistar, two of Peru's networks, and can use 5G where it's available. Your phone picks between them by itself, so there's nothing to switch once you land.

Cities and main towns, from Lima to Cusco, are well covered. Signal can be patchy in the Andes and the Amazon, so download offline maps before a trek. Your data reaches the internet through Belgium, a normal setup for travel eSIMs; see how IP addresses work if a site asks where you are. On daily plans, data slows to 512 Kbps once that day's allowance is used up.

Data guide

How much data do you need in Peru?

Install in two minutes

How to set up your Peru eSIM

  1. Install at home

On Wi-Fi, tap Install on iPhone (iOS 17.4+), scan the QR code, or type the two codes from your email.

  2. Switch on when you land

Turn on your eSIM line, choose it for mobile data and switch Data Roaming on for that line.

  3. You're online

Your phone joins Claro and your plan starts. Check data left on your eSIM page.

Using your phone in Peru: arrival, rides and messages

  • Landing in Peru: Install your eSIM at home on Wi-Fi, then switch it on when you land at Jorge Chávez (LIM), Alejandro Velasco Astete (CUZ) or Rodríguez Ballón (AQP). Then turn on data roaming for the eSIM line.
  • Getting around: Uber, inDrive and Cabify are the ride apps to have ready, and your eSIM data is what finds you a car in Lima, Cusco or Arequipa.
  • Staying in touch: WhatsApp is the messaging app to have here, and your home number stays on for calls and texts, so people can still reach you on it. Set up WhatsApp and your home number.
  • Data for the trip: Light use, like maps and messages, is about 0.25 GB a day, while streaming and hotspot use about 1.8 GB a day. Most plans can be topped up, and on daily plans speeds drop to 512 Kbps once you've used your daily allowance.

How much is an eSIM for Peru?

Peru eSIMs start at £3.99 for 100 MB over 7 days. A 5 GB plan for 30 days costs £14.99. Prices include any taxes and show in pounds, euros or dollars.

Which networks does the Peru eSIM use?

Your eSIM connects to Claro and Movistar in Peru, with 5G where the network has it. Your phone picks the strongest signal automatically.

When does my Peru eSIM start?

Most plans start the moment your eSIM first connects to a network in Peru, so you can buy and install it at home before you fly. Install it within 180 days of buying.

Can I top up my Peru eSIM?

Yes. Most Peru plans can be topped up from your eSIM page in two taps, with no new QR code. The plan table on this page shows which ones.

Why does my IP address show another country?

Peru plans route your data through Belgium, a normal setup for travel eSIMs. Websites and apps may show that country's content; your speed and coverage in Peru are not affected.

Does it come with a phone number?

Every eSIMology plan is data only. Keep your own SIM switched on for calls and texts, and use WhatsApp, FaceTime or any calling app over your eSIM's data.

What if my plans change?

Cancel an eSIM you haven't installed within 30 days for a full refund to your card, in two taps from your eSIM page.

Can I book Uber, inDrive or Cabify in Lima with an eSIM?

Yes. Uber, inDrive and Cabify all run on mobile data, so have your eSIM set up before you fly into Jorge Chávez (LIM), then book your ride from there.

Can I use WhatsApp in Peru?

Yes. WhatsApp is the app to know in Peru, and it runs on your eSIM's mobile data. Use it to message home or your guide in Cusco, and keep the chat going on the go.

Is there 5G in Peru?

Yes, Peru has 5G on its Claro and Movistar networks. Check [compatible phones](/esim-phones) before you fly to see whether your phone supports 5G, so you know what you'll get in Lima or Cusco.

Which eSIM covers Peru and the rest of South America?

Peru is included in the South America 6-country and South America 20-country bundles, so one eSIM can cover Peru and the other countries in either bundle. Pick the bundle that matches your route.

Can I use my eSIM as a hotspot for my laptop in Peru?

Yes, you can share your eSIM's connection with a laptop or tablet using your phone's [hotspot](/help/hotspot-tethering). Hotspot is heavy use, so a laptop running on it all day will use data much more quickly than maps and messages.
