Which Mexico eSIM plan do I need?

Start with how long you'll stay, then pick how much you'll use.

  • A city break in Mexico City: Three days of maps, WhatsApp messages and rides with Uber or DiDi suit 2 GB for 15 days.
  • Two weeks touring Oaxaca, Tulum and Playa del Carmen: Standard use over a fortnight suits 10 GB for 30 days, with messages, music and some video.
  • A month-long stay: A full month of standard use suits 20 GB for 30 days.
  • A week that also takes in a neighbour: Seven days of standard use suits 5 GB for 30 days, and the North America eSIM covers three countries if your route goes further.

Most plans can be topped up, and the longest plan lasts 30 days.

Good to know

  • Data only: your own number keeps working for calls and texts
  • Hotspot works where your phone and the network allow it
  • Plans start when you first connect; install within 180 days
  • Your data routes through Singapore, so some sites may show that country
  • Top up the same eSIM any time, no new QR code

Will my eSIM have signal in Mexico?

Your eSIM joins AT&T and Telcel in Mexico, and both networks offer 5G. Your phone picks between them by itself, so there is nothing to choose once you land. Cities and tourist areas are well covered, but signal can be patchy in remote mountain and jungle areas, so download your maps before you head off the beaten track.

Your data reaches the internet through Singapore, a normal setup for travel eSIMs, and you can read more about how your IP address works abroad. Daily plans slow to a gentler fair-use speed once you have used that day's allowance.

Data guide

How much data do you need in Mexico?

Light: maps, messages, email (about 0.25 GB a day). Standard: plus social, music, some video (about 0.7 GB a day). Heavy: plus streaming, video calls, hotspot (about 1.8 GB a day).

Install in two minutes

How to set up your Mexico eSIM

  1. Install at home

On Wi-Fi, tap Install on iPhone (iOS 17.4+), scan the QR code, or type the two codes from your email.

  2. Switch on when you land

Turn on your eSIM line, choose it for mobile data and switch Data Roaming on for that line.

  3. You're online

Your phone joins AT&T and your plan starts. Check data left on your eSIM page.

Using your phone in Mexico: data tips

Land and switch on: Install your eSIM at home on Wi-Fi, then switch it on when you land at Mexico City International (MEX), Cancún International (CUN) or Guadalajara International (GDL). Keep data roaming on for the eSIM line.

Get around: Uber, DiDi and inDrive are the local ride apps. Download one before you leave home, then book a car in Mexico City, Cancún, Tulum, Playa del Carmen or Oaxaca.

Stay in touch: WhatsApp is the messaging app to have ready before you land. Your home number stays on for calls and texts, and you can keep WhatsApp and your home number sorted.

Networks and top-ups: Your eSIM runs on AT&T or Telcel, with 5G part of the mix. Most plans can be topped up, so adding data later is simple, even halfway through your trip.

Mexico eSIM questions

Money back to your card. Cancel any eSIM you haven't installed within 30 days for a full refund. Our promise
How much is an eSIM for Mexico?

Mexico eSIMs start at £3.99 for 100 MB over 7 days. A 5 GB plan for 30 days costs £8.99. Prices include any taxes and show in pounds, euros or dollars.

Which networks does the Mexico eSIM use?

Your eSIM connects to AT&T and Telcel in Mexico, with 5G where the network has it. Your phone picks the strongest signal automatically.

When does my Mexico eSIM start?

Most plans start the moment your eSIM first connects to a network in Mexico, so you can buy and install it at home before you fly. Install it within 180 days of buying.

Can I top up my Mexico eSIM?

Yes. Most Mexico plans can be topped up from your eSIM page in two taps, with no new QR code. The plan table on this page shows which ones.

Why does my IP address show another country?

Mexico plans route your data through Singapore, a normal setup for travel eSIMs. Websites and apps may show that country's content; your speed and coverage in Mexico are not affected.

Does it come with a phone number?

Every eSIMology plan is data only. Keep your own SIM switched on for calls and texts, and use WhatsApp, FaceTime or any calling app over your eSIM's data.

What if my plans change?

Cancel an eSIM you haven't installed within 30 days for a full refund to your card, in two taps from your eSIM page.

Does Uber work with an eSIM at Mexico City International (MEX)?

Yes, Uber books through your phone's mobile data, so your eSIM is what gets you a car. Once you're through arrivals at Mexico City International (MEX), open the app, set your pickup point and tap to book. DiDi and inDrive book the same way.

Do I need a new eSIM for Tulum and Playa del Carmen?

No, one Mexico eSIM is set up for all of Mexico, so you won't need to swap SIMs when you move from Cancún International (CUN) to Tulum or Playa del Carmen.

Is there 5G in Mexico?

Yes, Mexico has 5G, and if your phone supports it, it will use 5G wherever the network offers it. Check your phone's settings after you land to see which connection it's on.

Can I use WhatsApp in Mexico on my eSIM?

Yes, WhatsApp runs on your eSIM's mobile data across Mexico, so messages, photos and shared locations come through as long as you have a signal. That's all you need to keep in touch with friends back home.

Can I use maps on my eSIM in Mexico City?

Yes, live maps run on mobile data, so your eSIM puts your route on screen while you walk or ride around Mexico City. Save your hotel's address and the place you're heading before you leave, in case the signal dips.
