Which Egypt eSIM plan do I need?

Egypt's plans come in a few sizes, so match your trip length and how you'll use it.

  • A three-day city break in Cairo: Maps and messages are the core jobs, and 2 GB for 15 days suits standard use.
  • A fortnight touring Cairo, Luxor and Aswan: 10 GB for 30 days covers standard use over two weeks, including travel between cities.
  • A month-long stay: 20 GB for 30 days covers standard use across the whole stay.
  • Egypt plus a neighbouring country: The Middle East & North Africa bundle covers 12 countries, Egypt included, so one eSIM can cover the whole route.

Most plans can be topped up, and the longest plan runs for 30 days.

Good to know

  • Data only: your own number keeps working for calls and texts
  • Hotspot works where your phone and the network allow it
  • Plans start when you first connect; install within 180 days
  • Your data routes through European Union, so some sites may show that country
  • Top up the same eSIM any time, no new QR code

Will my eSIM have signal in Egypt?

Your eSIM joins Orange, a network that offers 5G. Your phone picks it up by itself, so there is nothing to choose. Cities, the Nile Valley and Red Sea resorts are well covered, which is where you'll use maps, WhatsApp, Messenger and rides from Uber, Careem or inDrive. Signal drops in the desert, so keep that in mind for trips out of town.

Your data reaches the internet through Europe, a normal setup for travel eSIMs, and you can read more on the IP address help page. Daily plans slow to the fair use speed once the day's allowance is used up.

  3. You're online

Your phone joins Orange and your plan starts. Check data left on your eSIM page.

Using your phone in Egypt: data tips

  • Arriving: Land at Cairo (CAI), Hurghada (HRG) or Sharm el-Sheikh (SSH) and switch your eSIM on. Install it at home on Wi-Fi first, then turn data roaming on for the eSIM line, so you're set before you board.
  • Getting around: Download Uber, Careem and inDrive before you go, so you can compare rides in Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, Hurghada or Sharm El Sheikh.
  • Staying in touch: WhatsApp and Messenger are the messaging apps to have ready, so you can message friends and family as usual. Your home number can stay on for calls and texts, and you can see how to keep WhatsApp and your home number.
  • Good to know: Your eSIM runs on the Orange network, which has 5G, so check that your phone supports it before you buy. Most plans can be topped up, so you can add more data later.

How much is an eSIM for Egypt?

Egypt eSIMs start at £3.99 for 100 MB over 7 days. A 5 GB plan for 30 days costs £12.99. Prices include any taxes and show in pounds, euros or dollars.

Which networks does the Egypt eSIM use?

Your eSIM connects to Orange in Egypt, with 5G where the network has it. Your phone picks the strongest signal automatically.

When does my Egypt eSIM start?

Most plans start the moment your eSIM first connects to a network in Egypt, so you can buy and install it at home before you fly. Install it within 180 days of buying.

Can I top up my Egypt eSIM?

Yes. Most Egypt plans can be topped up from your eSIM page in two taps, with no new QR code. The plan table on this page shows which ones.

Why does my IP address show another country?

Egypt plans route your data through European Union, a normal setup for travel eSIMs. Websites and apps may show that country's content; your speed and coverage in Egypt are not affected.

Does it come with a phone number?

Every eSIMology plan is data only. Keep your own SIM switched on for calls and texts, and use WhatsApp, FaceTime or any calling app over your eSIM's data.

What if my plans change?

Cancel an eSIM you haven't installed within 30 days for a full refund to your card, in two taps from your eSIM page.

Is there 5G in Egypt?

Orange in Egypt runs 5G, so a 5G phone can use it where the signal reaches. Not sure your phone supports 5G? Check the compatible phones list before you fly.

What happens when my daily data runs out in Egypt?

Once a day's allowance is used up, speed drops to 512 Kbps, a fair use limit. Daily plans in Egypt run from 500 MB to 10 GB a day, for stays up to 30 days, so pick a size to match your days in Luxor, Aswan or Cairo.

Can I book Uber or Careem in Egypt with an eSIM?

Uber, Careem and inDrive all need mobile data to request a car, so your eSIM is what gets you from Cairo (CAI) or Hurghada (HRG) into town. Switch it on as you land and your ride is one tap away.

Can I use WhatsApp in Egypt?

WhatsApp and Messenger are the messaging apps to know in Egypt, and both run on your eSIM's mobile data. Send photos and voice notes as usual, but big video downloads use data quickly.

Which eSIM covers Egypt and other countries?

Egypt sits in the Middle East and North Africa eSIM, which covers 12 countries, and in two Africa eSIMs covering 21 and 29 countries. If your route goes beyond Egypt, pick the one that matches it.
