Which Croatia eSIM plan do I need?

Match your trip length to the plan below, and choose standard use unless you stream or share your hotspot a lot. Standard use means social media, music and some video.

  • A long weekend in Dubrovnik: 1 GB a day for 3 days covers standard use, with room for maps, messages and photos.
  • A fortnight touring Split, Hvar and Plitvice Lakes: 10 GB for 30 days suits standard use over two weeks.
  • A month-long stay in Zagreb: 20 GB for 30 days covers standard use across the whole stay.
  • A week in Croatia and a neighbour: the Balkans bundle covers seven countries, and for standard use over a week, 5 GB for 30 days is the Croatia plan.

Most plans can be topped up, and the longest is 50 GB for 180 days.

Good to know

  • Data only: your own number keeps working for calls and texts
  • Hotspot works where your phone and the network allow it
  • Plans start when you first connect; install within 180 days
  • Your data routes through France or Netherlands or United Kingdom, so some sites may show that country
  • Top up the same eSIM any time, no new QR code

Will my eSIM have signal in Croatia?

In Croatia, your eSIM connects to A1 or Tele2, and your phone picks between them by itself. You get 5G where your phone and the network support it, and 4G everywhere else.

Cities, the coast and main roads are well covered. Signal can drop in the mountains and on some smaller islands, so save your offline maps before you head there. Your data reaches the internet through France, the Netherlands or the United Kingdom, a normal setup for travel eSIMs, and the IP address help page explains how. On daily plans, speeds slow to the fair use speed once you've used that day's allowance.

How to set up your Croatia eSIM

  2. Switch on when you land

Using your eSIM in Croatia: arriving, rides and messages

  • Arriving: Install your eSIM at home on Wi-Fi before you fly. Land at Zagreb (ZAG), Split (SPU) or Dubrovnik (DBV), switch it on, and turn on data roaming for the eSIM line. The full steps are in the data roaming guide.
  • Getting around: Set up Uber and Bolt before you land, so a ride is ready in Zagreb, Split or Dubrovnik. Trips out to Hvar or Plitvice Lakes are worth planning ahead.
  • Staying in touch: Keep WhatsApp and Viber signed in before you go. Your home number stays on for calls and texts, and the WhatsApp and home number guide shows how they work together.
  • Data for the week: Light use, like maps, messages and email, is about 1.8 GB. Heavy use with streaming and hotspot is about 12.6 GB. Most plans can be topped up if you run low.

How much is an eSIM for Croatia?

Croatia eSIMs start at £3.99 for 1 GB over 7 days. A 5 GB plan for 30 days costs £5.99. Prices include any taxes and show in pounds, euros or dollars.

Which networks does the Croatia eSIM use?

Your eSIM connects to A1 and Tele2 in Croatia, with 5G where the network has it. Your phone picks the strongest signal automatically.

When does my Croatia eSIM start?

Most plans start the moment your eSIM first connects to a network in Croatia, so you can buy and install it at home before you fly. Install it within 180 days of buying.

Can I top up my Croatia eSIM?

Yes. Most Croatia plans can be topped up from your eSIM page in two taps, with no new QR code. The plan table on this page shows which ones.

Why does my IP address show another country?

Croatia plans route your data through France, a normal setup for travel eSIMs. Websites and apps may show that country's content; your speed and coverage in Croatia are not affected.

Does it come with a phone number?

Every eSIMology plan is data only. Keep your own SIM switched on for calls and texts, and use WhatsApp, FaceTime or any calling app over your eSIM's data.

What if my plans change?

Cancel an eSIM you haven't installed within 30 days for a full refund to your card, in two taps from your eSIM page.

Can I book an Uber or Bolt from Dubrovnik airport on my eSIM?

Yes. Uber and Bolt are the ride apps to have ready at Zagreb (ZAG), Split (SPU) or Dubrovnik (DBV). Check your pickup point before you leave arrivals, so you're not hunting for a rank with bags in tow.

Can I use WhatsApp and Viber in Croatia on my eSIM?

Yes. WhatsApp and Viber both run over your eSIM's mobile data, so messages keep flowing to friends at home and to your hotel in Split or Hvar. Update both apps before you fly, just in case.

Is there 5G in Croatia?

Yes. Croatia has 5G as well as 4G, and your eSIM uses the A1 or Tele2 networks there. Check your phone supports 5G before you fly, then look in its mobile settings to turn on 5G if you want it.

Can a Europe eSIM cover Croatia too?

Yes. Croatia is covered by the Balkans bundle, which spans 7 countries, and by two Europe bundles, one covering 31 countries and one covering 33. Pick one of these if your trip runs beyond Croatia's borders.

Is there a daily data plan for Croatia?

Yes. Pick a daily allowance from 500 MB a day up to 10 GB a day, with day options from 1 day to 30 days. Once you use up that day's allowance, fair use takes over.
