Which Belgium eSIM plan do I need?

Brussels, Bruges, Antwerp, Ghent and Leuven each make a good base, so pick your plan by how long you stay.

  • City break in Bruges, 3 days: 1 GB a day for 3 days covers maps, messages and social media for a relaxed trip.
  • A week in Brussels and Ghent: 5 GB for 30 days suits maps, messages, social media, music and some video.
  • Two weeks touring Belgium: 10 GB for 30 days covers a fortnight of standard use.
  • A fortnight across Belgium and a neighbour: choose the Europe, 31 countries eSIM, which covers Belgium too, so one eSIM does both.

Most plans can be topped up, and the longest is 50 GB for 180 days.

Good to know

  • Data only: your own number keeps working for calls and texts
  • Hotspot works where your phone and the network allow it
  • Plans start when you first connect; install within 180 days
  • Your data routes through France or Netherlands or United Kingdom, so some sites may show that country
  • Top up the same eSIM any time, no new QR code

Will my eSIM have signal in Belgium?

Your eSIM joins Base, Orange and Proximus, and your phone picks between them by itself. Belgium offers both 5G and 4G, so you get 5G where it's on offer and 4G when it isn't. Cities, towns and main roads are well covered, from Brussels and Antwerp to Bruges and Ghent.

Your data reaches the internet through a connection in France, the Netherlands or the United Kingdom, a normal setup for travel eSIMs, and the IP address guide has the details. Daily plans slow to 512 Kbps once you've used that day's allowance.

Install in two minutes

How to set up your Belgium eSIM

  1. Install at home

On Wi-Fi, tap Install on iPhone (iOS 17.4+), scan the QR code, or type the two codes from your email.

  2. Switch on when you land

Turn on your eSIM line, choose it for mobile data and switch Data Roaming on for that line.

  3. You're online

Your phone joins Base and your plan starts. Check data left on your eSIM page.

Using your phone in Belgium: data tips

  • Land and switch on: Install your eSIM at home on Wi-Fi first. Then, once you land at Brussels (BRU) or Brussels South Charleroi (CRL), switch it on and turn on data roaming for that line.
  • Getting around: Load Uber or Bolt before you leave the airport. A ride into Brussels, Bruges, Antwerp, Ghent or Leuven then takes one tap, so you don't need to hunt for a taxi.
  • Staying in touch: WhatsApp messages and photos run on your eSIM data, and your home number stays on for calls and texts. Read our guide to WhatsApp and your home number to keep both working.
  • Choosing data: Light use, such as maps, messages and email, is about 0.25 GB a day. Standard use, with social media, music and some video, is about 0.7 GB a day. Most plans can be topped up if your trip runs longer.

How much is an eSIM for Belgium?

Belgium eSIMs start at £3.99 for 1 GB over 7 days. A 5 GB plan for 30 days costs £5.99. Prices include any taxes and show in pounds, euros or dollars.

Which networks does the Belgium eSIM use?

Your eSIM connects to Base, Orange and Proximus in Belgium, with 5G where the network has it. Your phone picks the strongest signal automatically.

When does my Belgium eSIM start?

Most plans start the moment your eSIM first connects to a network in Belgium, so you can buy and install it at home before you fly. Install it within 180 days of buying.

Can I top up my Belgium eSIM?

Yes. Most Belgium plans can be topped up from your eSIM page in two taps, with no new QR code. The plan table on this page shows which ones.

Why does my IP address show another country?

Belgium plans route your data through France, a normal setup for travel eSIMs. Websites and apps may show that country's content; your speed and coverage in Belgium are not affected.

Does it come with a phone number?

Every eSIMology plan is data only. Keep your own SIM switched on for calls and texts, and use WhatsApp, FaceTime or any calling app over your eSIM's data.

What if my plans change?

Cancel an eSIM you haven't installed within 30 days for a full refund to your card, in two taps from your eSIM page.

Can one eSIM cover Belgium and other European countries?

Yes. Belgium is included in the Europe eSIMs covering 31, 33 and 34 countries, so one plan can take you across several borders. Pick a Europe eSIM if your trip goes beyond Belgium, or the Belgium eSIM if you're staying put.

How much data do I need for a week in Belgium?

About 1.8 GB covers a week of maps and messages in Belgium. Add social media, music and some video and you're nearer 4.9 GB. Heavy streaming and hotspot use can take a week to about 12.6 GB.

Is there 5G in Belgium?

Yes. Belgium has 5G alongside 4G, and your phone will use whichever is available. Your phone needs 5G support to get it, so check it's on the compatible list before you go.

Can I use WhatsApp in Belgium?

Yes, WhatsApp is the messaging app to use in Belgium, and it runs on your eSIM's mobile data just as it does at home. Send messages and share photos with friends and family as you go.

Can I get Uber or Bolt in Brussels with an eSIM?

Uber and Bolt are the ride apps to have ready in Belgium. Both need mobile data to book, so keep your eSIM's data switched on when you book a ride from Brussels Airport (BRU).

Does Brussels South Charleroi airport (CRL) need its own eSIM?

No. Brussels South Charleroi (CRL) and Brussels Airport (BRU) are both in Belgium, so the one Belgium eSIM is all you need whichever you fly into. Pick the plan that fits your trip length.

Can I get a Belgium eSIM for a long stay?

Yes. The longest Belgium plan is 50 GB for 180 days, which covers a term in Leuven or a long placement in Ghent in one go.
