  • A three-day city break in Sydney: 1 GB for 7 days covers light use, which is maps, messages and email each day.
  • A fortnight touring Melbourne, Cairns and Perth: 10 GB for 30 days gives you room for social media, music and some video.

Your eSIM joins the strongest of these local networks automatically, wherever you are in Australia.

Good to know

  • Data only: your own number keeps working for calls and texts
  • Hotspot works where your phone and the network allow it
  • Plans start when you first connect; install within 180 days
  • Your data routes through Singapore, so some sites may show that country
  • Top up the same eSIM any time, no new QR code

Will my eSIM have signal in Australia?

Your eSIM joins Optus and Telstra, and both run 5G, so a 5G phone can use it. Cities and main roads are well covered, but signal thins out in the Outback. Your phone picks between the two networks by itself, so there's no switching to do.

Your data reaches the internet through Singapore, a normal setup for travel eSIMs, and here's what that means for you. On daily plans, speed drops to 384 Kbps once that day's allowance is used, so it's worth knowing before you download anything big.

Data guide

How much data do you need in Australia?

Using your eSIM in Australia: arrival, rides and messages

  • Land and switch on: Install your eSIM at home on Wi-Fi. When you land at Sydney Kingsford Smith (SYD), Melbourne Tullamarine (MEL) or Brisbane (BNE), switch it on and turn on data roaming for the eSIM line.
  • Getting around: Uber and DiDi are the ride apps to have ready in Sydney, Melbourne, Gold Coast, Cairns and Perth. Set them up before you land, so you can book straight from the kerb.
  • Staying in touch: Message friends on WhatsApp or Messenger over your eSIM data, while your home number stays on for calls and texts. Keep WhatsApp and your home number sorted before you fly.
  • Data pace: Light use, such as maps, messages and email, runs about 0.25 GB a day. Heavy use, with streaming and hotspot, runs about 1.8 GB a day. Most plans can be topped up if your trip runs long.
