Which Asia eSIM plan fits your route through these seven countries?

Start with how many days you'll be away and how much data you'll use, then match your route to one of these.

  • A three-day hop from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur, standard use: pick 500 MB a day for 5 days, as standard use over three days comes to about 2.1 GB.
  • A week from Hanoi to Siem Reap, standard use: pick 5 GB for 30 days, as standard use over a week comes to about 4.9 GB.
  • Two weeks from Bangkok to Kuala Lumpur, heavy use: pick 2 GB a day for 15 days, as heavy use over two weeks comes to about 25.2 GB.
  • Only Thailand: if Thailand is your one stop, the Thailand eSIM is the one to buy for that trip.

Unlike Asia (12 countries), this bundle covers the Philippines, so pick it if that is on your route.

Good to know

  • Data only: your own number keeps working for calls and texts
  • Hotspot works where your phone and the network allow it
  • Plans start when you first connect; install within 180 days
  • Your data routes through Hong Kong, so some sites may show that country
  • Top up the same eSIM any time, no new QR code

Which countries and networks does the Asia eSIM cover?

Bangkok, Hanoi and Bali, all on one eSIM. It covers seven countries, and six of them have 5G networks. Here are the networks in the four countries travellers visit most:

  • Thailand: DTAC and TrueMove H
  • Vietnam: MobiFone, Vietnamobile and Viettel Mobile
  • Indonesia: Telkomsel
  • Malaysia: CelcomDigi, Maxis and U Mobile

Your phone switches to the local network by itself at each border, so there's nothing to change as you go. Your data reaches the internet through Hong Kong, a normal setup for travel eSIMs. You can read more about IP addresses in other countries.

Using one eSIM across Asia: tips for crossing borders

  • Bangkok, Siem Reap, Hoi An: one eSIM spans all seven countries, so you keep the same plan as you move between them. Install it at home before you fly.
  • Data roaming: keep it on for the eSIM line at every border, so your phone can join each new network. Turn on data roaming
  • Rides and messages: Grab works for rides in Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia and Malaysia, plus Bolt in Thailand and Gojek in Indonesia. Use LINE in Thailand, WhatsApp in Indonesia and Malaysia, and Zalo in Vietnam, where Telegram is blocked.
  • Home number: keep your home number for calls and texts, and sort out WhatsApp before you go. Keep WhatsApp and your home number
  • Topping up: most plans can be topped up mid-trip, so you can add more data along the way without buying a new eSIM.
