Which Argentina eSIM plan do I need?

Pick by your days and by how much you'll use your phone, so you're not paying for data you won't touch.

  • A week in Buenos Aires, mostly messages and maps: 2 GB for 15 days suits light use.
  • A fortnight touring from Mendoza to Ushuaia: 10 GB for 30 days suits standard use, with social media, music and some video.
  • A month-long stay: 20 GB for 30 days suits standard use over the whole stay, so you can take your time with Buenos Aires and beyond.
  • Going on to a neighbour: the South America eSIM for 6 countries is built for routes that cross into another country.

Most plans can be topped up, and the longest plan lasts 30 days.

Good to know

  • Data only: your own number keeps working for calls and texts
  • Hotspot works where your phone and the network allow it
  • Plans start when you first connect; install within 180 days
  • Your data routes through Belgium, so some sites may show that country
  • Top up the same eSIM any time, no new QR code

Will my eSIM have signal in Argentina?

Your eSIM joins Claro or Movistar in Argentina, both on 4G. Your phone chooses between them by itself, so you don't need to set anything up. Cities and main roads are well covered. Signal is patchy in remote parts of Patagonia and the Andes, so save your maps offline before a long drive out there.

Your data reaches the internet through Belgium, a normal setup for travel eSIMs, and the IP address help page explains why. Daily plans slow to a lower fair-use speed once the day's allowance is used up.

Install in two minutes

How to set up your Argentina eSIM

  1. Install at home

On Wi-Fi, tap Install on iPhone (iOS 17.4+), scan the QR code, or type the two codes from your email.

  2. Switch on when you land

Turn on your eSIM line, choose it for mobile data and switch Data Roaming on for that line.

  3. You're online

Your phone joins Claro and your plan starts. Check data left on your eSIM page.

Using your phone in Argentina: data tips

  • Landing at Ezeiza or Aeroparque: Install your eSIM at home on Wi-Fi, then switch it on when you land at Ezeiza (EZE) or Aeroparque Jorge Newbery (AEP). Keep data roaming on for your eSIM line, and check the roaming steps if you're unsure.
  • Getting around: Book rides with Uber, Cabify or DiDi in Buenos Aires, Mendoza, Bariloche, Salta or Ushuaia, and let your maps guide you from the airport to the hotel.
  • Staying in touch: WhatsApp is the messaging app to have ready here. Your home number stays on for calls and texts, so set up WhatsApp and your home number before you fly.
  • Your network: Your eSIM runs on Claro or Movistar, both on 4G. There's no 5G on these networks, so 4G is what you'll see on your screen.
  • Data for your trip: A week of light use, with maps and messages, is about 1.8 GB. Two weeks of standard use, with social media, music and some video, is about 9.8 GB.

How much is an eSIM for Argentina?

Argentina eSIMs start at £3.99 for 100 MB over 7 days. A 5 GB plan for 30 days costs £16.99. Prices include any taxes and show in pounds, euros or dollars.

Which networks does the Argentina eSIM use?

Your eSIM connects to Claro and Movistar in Argentina. Your phone picks the strongest signal automatically.

When does my Argentina eSIM start?

Most plans start the moment your eSIM first connects to a network in Argentina, so you can buy and install it at home before you fly. Install it within 180 days of buying.

Can I top up my Argentina eSIM?

Yes. Most Argentina plans can be topped up from your eSIM page in two taps, with no new QR code. The plan table on this page shows which ones.

Why does my IP address show another country?

Argentina plans route your data through Belgium, a normal setup for travel eSIMs. Websites and apps may show that country's content; your speed and coverage in Argentina are not affected.

Does it come with a phone number?

Every eSIMology plan is data only. Keep your own SIM switched on for calls and texts, and use WhatsApp, FaceTime or any calling app over your eSIM's data.

What if my plans change?

Cancel an eSIM you haven't installed within 30 days for a full refund to your card, in two taps from your eSIM page.

What ride apps can I use in Argentina with an eSIM?

Uber, Cabify and DiDi are the ride apps to use in Argentina, and they're handy from Ezeiza (EZE) or Aeroparque Jorge Newbery (AEP). Each one needs mobile data to book, so keep your eSIM switched on as you come through arrivals.

Can I use WhatsApp in Buenos Aires on an eSIM?

Yes, you can. WhatsApp is the messaging app to use in Buenos Aires and beyond, and it runs on your eSIM data just like it does at home. Photos, voice notes and group chats all use the same data, so you can keep in touch with friends in Mendoza or Bariloche.

Is there 5G in Argentina?

No. Your eSIM in Argentina runs on 4G with Claro and Movistar, so 4G is the network type you'll see on screen. Maps, messages and ride bookings all work over 4G too.

Which eSIM covers Argentina and the rest of South America?

Both South America eSIMs cover Argentina: one covers 6 countries and the other 20. If your trip crosses borders, the 20-country option is the one to look at.

Do I need a local SIM card in Argentina?

No. Your eSIM gives you mobile data on Claro or Movistar, so there's no SIM card to hunt for in a shop in Buenos Aires or Salta.
