Which Uruguay eSIM plan do I need?

Match your trip length to how much you'll use your phone, and the right plan is clear.

  • A city break in Montevideo: Light use of maps and messages suits a few days, so 1 GB for 7 days is the one to pick.
  • A fortnight touring Punta del Este and Colonia del Sacramento: Standard use, with social media, music and some video, over two weeks points to 10 GB for 30 days.
  • A month-long business trip: Standard use across 30 days points to 20 GB for 30 days, enough for email, maps and rides.
  • A trip that also takes in a neighbour: Standard use for 7 days points to 5 GB for 30 days, and the South America bundle for 6 countries also covers Uruguay.

Most plans can be topped up, so you can add more data if your stay runs longer.

Good to know

  • Data only: your own number keeps working for calls and texts
  • Hotspot works where your phone and the network allow it
  • Plans start when you first connect; install within 180 days
  • Your data routes through Austria, so some sites may show that country
  • Top up the same eSIM any time, no new QR code

Will my eSIM have signal in Uruguay?

Your eSIM joins Claro and Movistar in Uruguay, and your phone picks between them by itself, so there is nothing to switch on. Where 5G is on offer, your phone uses it. Once you're in Montevideo or on the coast at Punta del Este, you can message on WhatsApp and order a ride with Uber or Cabify.

Your data reaches the internet through an IP address in Austria. That's a normal setup for travel eSIMs, and you'll rarely notice it, but if a site asks where you are, our IP address help page explains why. On daily plans, your speed drops to a fair-use level once the day's allowance is used up.
