## Which Samoa eSIM plan do I need?

Match your trip length to how you'll use your phone. These are the plans we'd start with for Samoa.

- **A three-day city break in Apia:** Standard use suits the 3 GB for 15 days plan, which gives room for social media, music and some video.
- **A fortnight touring Upolu and Savai'i:** 10 GB for 30 days matches standard use, with room for social media, music and some video.
- **A month-long stay:** 20 GB for 30 days suits a month of social media, music and some video.
- **A trip that also takes in a neighbour:** The [Oceania eSIM](/esim/oceania) covers eight countries, Samoa among them, so one eSIM can cover the whole route.

Most plans can be [topped up](/help/top-up-esim), and the longest plan runs for 30 days.

## Will my eSIM have signal in Samoa?

Digicel is the network your eSIM joins in Samoa, and it runs on 4G, so you get mobile data and messages on the move. Your phone picks Digicel by itself, so there's nothing to set up once you land.

Coverage is best around Apia and on Upolu; remote parts of Savai'i can be patchy. Going to Savai'i? Download your maps before you set off.

Your data reaches the internet through Singapore, a normal setup for travel eSIMs; the [IP address help page](/help/ip-address-another-country) explains more. Daily plans slow to 512 Kbps once you've used that day's allowance.

## Using your phone in Samoa: data tips

- **Land and switch on:** Land at Faleolo International (APW), then switch your eSIM line on. Install it at home on Wi-Fi first, and make sure [data roaming](/help/turn-on-data-roaming) is on for the eSIM line. Samoa runs on Digicel's 4G, so there's no 5G to look for.
- **Getting around:** Download maps for Apia, Upolu, Savai'i, Manono and Lalomanu before you leave Wi-Fi, so directions still load if the signal dips.
- **Staying in touch:** Set up Facebook Messenger before you land so your chats are waiting. Your home number stays on for calls and texts, and you can [keep it switched on](/help/keep-whatsapp-and-home-number) alongside your eSIM.
- **Data use:** Light use, like maps, messages and email, is about 0.25 GB a day. Heavy use, with streaming and hotspot, is about 1.8 GB a day.
- **Top up:** Most plans can be topped up, so you can add more data mid-trip.

## Questions

### How much is an eSIM for Samoa?

Samoa eSIMs start at £4.99 for 500 MB a day over 1 day. A 5 GB plan for 30 days costs £28.99. Prices include any taxes and show in pounds, euros or dollars.

### Which networks does the Samoa eSIM use?

Your eSIM connects to Digicel in Samoa. Your phone picks the strongest signal automatically.

### When does my Samoa eSIM start?

Most plans start the moment your eSIM first connects to a network in Samoa, so you can buy and install it at home before you fly. Install it within 180 days of buying.

### Can I top up my Samoa eSIM?

Yes. Most Samoa plans can be topped up from your eSIM page in two taps, with no new QR code. The plan table on this page shows which ones.

### Why does my IP address show another country?

Samoa plans route your data through Singapore, a normal setup for travel eSIMs. Websites and apps may show that country's content; your speed and coverage in Samoa are not affected.

### Does it come with a phone number?

Every eSIMology plan is data only. Keep your own SIM switched on for calls and texts, and use WhatsApp, FaceTime or any calling app over your eSIM's data.

### What if my plans change?

Cancel an eSIM you haven't installed within 30 days for a full refund to your card, in two taps from your eSIM page.

### Is there 5G in Samoa?

Digicel's network in Samoa is 4G only, so there's no 5G to look for. Your phone will show 4G in the status bar, so plan for messages, maps and photos rather than heavy streaming.

### How much data do I need for a week in Samoa?

In Apia and Lalomanu, a week of light use, maps, messages and email, needs about 1.8 GB. Add social media, music and some video and a week comes to about 4.9 GB. Heavy use with streaming and hotspot is about 12.6 GB.

### Which eSIM covers Samoa and other Oceania countries?

Samoa is in the Oceania bundle, so if your trip takes you to other Oceania countries, one eSIM can cover the whole route. Check the plan sizes against your days there.

### Can I use Facebook Messenger in Samoa with an eSIM?

In Samoa, Facebook Messenger is the messaging app to know, and it runs on your eSIM's mobile data like any other app. Keep a little data spare for photos, which use more than chat text.

### What happens to my Samoa eSIM when my daily data runs out?

Samoa's daily plans have a fair-use limit: once your allowance is used, speed drops to 512 Kbps. That's too slow for streaming, so pick a daily size that matches how much you'll use.

### Can I use my eSIM at Faleolo airport when I land?

Land at Faleolo International (APW), switch on data roaming and look for Digicel in your status bar. Install your eSIM before you fly, so you only need to switch it on when you land.
