## Which Asia eSIM plan suits my trip?

Your Asia eSIM is built for routes that cross borders, so one plan carries you from stop to stop.

- **Two weeks in Japan and South Korea:** start in Tokyo, Kyoto or Osaka, then head to Seoul or Busan. Standard use suits 10 GB for 30 days.
- **A week in Thailand and Vietnam:** from Bangkok and Chiang Mai to Hanoi and Hoi An. Heavy use, with plenty of streaming and hotspot, suits 20 GB for 30 days.
- **Three days in Bali and Jakarta:** a short Indonesia trip on standard use suits 3 GB for 15 days.
- **Just Japan:** a trip to Japan alone suits [Japan's own eSIM](/esim/japan).

This bundle has Japan, South Korea, China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, which Asia (7 countries) doesn't; that one has the Philippines instead.

## Which countries and networks does the Asia eSIM cover?

From Tokyo to Hanoi, twelve countries sit on one eSIM, and ten of them have 5G. These are the networks you'll join in the countries most travellers head to:

- **Japan:** KDDI/au
- **Thailand:** DTAC and TrueMove H
- **Vietnam:** MobiFone, Vietnamobile and Viettel Mobile
- **South Korea:** SKTelecom

Your phone switches network by itself at each border, so there's nothing to set up as you go. Most plans can be topped up, too. Your data reaches the internet through Hong Kong, a normal setup for travel eSIMs. You can read more on [how IP addresses work abroad](/help/ip-address-another-country).

## Using one eSIM across Asia: tips

From Tokyo to Hanoi, and Seoul to Bali, one eSIM covers twelve countries. Here's how to make the most of it.

- **Install before you fly:** Set up your eSIM at home, then keep [data roaming](/help/turn-on-data-roaming) switched on for the eSIM line at every border.
- **Ride apps:** Grab in Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam, Gojek in Indonesia, GO, Uber and DiDi in Japan, and Kakao T in South Korea.
- **Messages and maps:** Use LINE in Japan and Thailand, WhatsApp in Indonesia, Zalo and Messenger in Vietnam and KakaoTalk in South Korea. Telegram is blocked in Vietnam. In South Korea, Naver Map and KakaoMap give walking and transit directions where Google Maps can't.
- **Calls and texts:** Your home number can stay for calls and texts, while your eSIM handles data. Read how to keep [WhatsApp and your home number](/help/keep-whatsapp-and-home-number) working together.
- **Top up mid-trip:** Most plans can be topped up, so you can add more data if you need it.

## Questions

### How much is an eSIM for Asia?

Asia eSIMs start at £3.99 for 500 MB a day over 1 day. A 5 GB plan for 30 days costs £21.99. Prices include any taxes and show in pounds, euros or dollars.

### Which countries does the Asia eSIM cover?

One eSIM works in all 12 countries: China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Cambodia, South Korea, Macau, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan and Vietnam. The full list with the network in each country is on this page.

### When does my Asia eSIM start?

Most plans start the moment your eSIM first connects to a network in Asia, so you can buy and install it at home before you fly. Install it within 180 days of buying.

### Can I top up my Asia eSIM?

Yes. Most Asia plans can be topped up from your eSIM page in two taps, with no new QR code. The plan table on this page shows which ones.

### Does it come with a phone number?

Every eSIMology plan is data only. Keep your own SIM switched on for calls and texts, and use WhatsApp, FaceTime or any calling app over your eSIM's data.

### What if my plans change?

Cancel an eSIM you haven't installed within 30 days for a full refund to your card, in two taps from your eSIM page.

### How is the Asia eSIM different from the Asia (14 countries) one?

This one includes China and Singapore, which the 14-country version leaves out. That one adds Bangladesh, India, Laos and Philippines, none of which this bundle has.

### Can I use one Asia eSIM for Japan and Thailand?

Yes, Japan and Thailand are both among the 12 countries. In Japan the networks are KDDI/au, and in Thailand they are DTAC and TrueMove H, so one eSIM can take you from Tokyo to Bangkok.

### Is there 5G on the Asia eSIM?

Yes, 10 of its 12 countries have 5G. Your phone needs 5G support too, so check our compatible phones page before you buy to see if yours qualifies.

### Can I use Telegram in Vietnam with the Asia eSIM?

No. Vietnam is one of the 12 countries, but Telegram is blocked there, so message people on Zalo or Messenger instead. Those are the messaging apps to use there.

### Will Google Maps give walking directions in South Korea?

No, not for walking and transit. South Korea is one of the 12 countries, but Google Maps can't give those directions there. Naver Map and KakaoMap both give them instead. Many Korean apps also ask for a local phone number to sign up, which a travel eSIM may not provide.

### Can I use the Asia eSIM in Bali?

Yes. Bali is in Indonesia, one of the 12 countries, and the network there is Telkomsel. Use Grab, Gojek or inDrive for rides, and WhatsApp to message.
